Two Strangers and a Wedding – couple chosen

(This article was originally published as a press release in 1999.)

The two strangers who are to be married in BRMB’s “Two Strangers and a Wedding” event have been announced and introduced on air.

Today was the climax of the event so far, as presenter Elliot Webb announced that the pair to be married are Carla, 23, from Sutton Coldfield and Greg, 27, from Tamworth.

Second names have not been released to allow the couple some anonymity before the wedding at which they will meet for the first time. Media attention has been so intense the couple have been taken to separate locations where they’ll stay until the wedding.

The couple spoke briefly on BRMB this morning as Elliot Webb announced the pair’s names just after 8.30am. Carla was in the studio and Greg on the phone at home.

Carla had been told the night before and opened a bottle of champagne.  “I had lots of Pizza but I’m not fat – husband (to be)!” Carla entered the competition because she wanted to find the perfect husband. “I went to a fortune teller and she told me that there’s going to be a wedding in 1999 and it could have something to do with me.”

Carla’s mother feels she’s strong enough to cope with the attention. “She knows she’s going to face a lot of criticism and people will wonder why on earth she’d done it. But she is level headed and I know she’ll cope.”

Greg said he was nervous and excited but understand how Carla felt. “I can imagine what is going through your mind and I can’t wait to meet you!”

The “finale” of Two Strangers and a Wedding will take place on January 25th.
