Ten Walkathon Facts

1} The route has varied over the years but the most famous is the Number 11 Bus route to be used this year

2} 26 miles is the length of Walkathon that corresponds to the Olympic marathon distance.

3} HRH Prince Charles was the top member of the Royal Family to thank walkers in 1984

4} Walkathon became the top supplier of charity minibuses and ambulances in the region as a result of the 1984 event

5} Princess Diana opened the Trauma unit at the Birmingham Accident Hospital after £250,000 donation from Walkathon in 1989.

6} By 2002 over 250,000 people had taken part in the Walkathons.

7} Over £4million pounds has been raised so far by all Walkathons

8} In 2010 over £360,000 was given to the ‘Home From Home’ for  Heroes – a cheque presented by singer James Blunt to the combined services.

9} Fancy costumes have dominated the pictures on the day but 2004 saw 372 members of St Trinians taking part!

10} Almost 5 million miles will have been walked by Walkathon walkers by the end this year’s 2011 event.
